The role
Join us at Alpine Energy as a Cable Jointer and play a vital role in keeping our underground network safe and reliable. We're after a skilled professional to help us lay, joint, terminate, and repair power cables up to 33kV. You’ll install equipment like LV pillars, transformers, and switchgear, locate faults, and ensure compliance. This is a permanent role based in Timaru, with opportunities to grow your skills and make a real impact.
The hourly rate for this role is $36.58 to $41.01 depending on experience. This is a full time role with a minimum of 30 hours a week (normal work week 40 hours).
As a Cable Jointer in our Underground Services team, you will:
· Lay, joint, and terminate underground power cables up to 33kV
· Install and commission LV pillars, transformers, and switchgear
· Troubleshoot and resolve underground cable faults to keep power flowing safely
What you’ll need
· EWRB Registration – Level 4 Cable Jointer (or equivalent)
· Experience in electrical distribution (Usually 1-2 years)
· Strong focus on safety and teamwork
Nice to haves
· Experience jointing polymeric cables up to 33kV
· Familiarity with SM-EI, EAC/PHC, and Permit-to-Work requirements
· Problem-solving skills and ability to mentor trainees
